Feb 25, 12 noon: Luncheon with Ewa Podles

The luncheon celebrates the great Polish singer who is in
Seattle for her performance in Handel’s
Julius Caesar (see a
separate note). Ms. Podles is a contralto with an exceptional
vocal range who performed at the Metropolitan Opera, La Scala &
Covent Garden, among others. The event is a fundraiser for the
Polish Studies at the
University of Washington
organized by the UW Polish Studies Endowment Committee.

Ewa Podles, the brilliant Polish
contralto, becomes a regular visitor to
Seattle. She is the winner of the 2003
Seattle Opera’s Artist of the Year Award for her performance as
Adalgisa in Bellini’s
Norma, and in the
summer 2005 she received rave reviews as Erda and First Norn in
Wagner’s Ring of the
Nibelungen. This time she
will take on the title role in
Julius Caesar by
George Haendel.

Broadway Performance Hall |

Ich Troje,
a very popular music band from
Poland, returns to
Seattle after a smashing success of their concert in Bellevue in
February 2006. Local fans say their songs have nice and catchy
melodies appealing both to younger and older generation and that
their concerts are always great shows. Michal & Ania Wisniewski
and Jacek Lagwa come to
Seattle with a show cast of 18!

Feb 18, 6 pm: Salon of Poetry reads to kids in
Polish, at the Polish Home |

The Salon of Poetry invites parents and children to a story time
in Polish based on a tale
Sceny z zycia smokow by Beata Krupska. Kids and
parents can participate in reading and games together;
attractions include a crocodile teaching everybody how to sing a
dragon song.

Feb 18, 2 pm: Tomasz Stanko at the
Portland
Jazz Festival |

Tomasz Stanko, the brilliant Polish jazz trumpeter is coming to
the 4th Portland Jazz Festival, running from February
16 to 25, 2007. Stanko and his virtuoso playing style are very
well known in Europe and his recent CD received awards as far away
as Australia.
In Portland,
Tomasz Stanko and his quartet will perform in a double bill
concert with Charles Lloyd.

soccer connection to the dancing: Pilkarski Klub of Seattle (PKS),
Seattle's only all-Polish soccer team invites to a special disco
with two DJs: djElixer and djCole all the way from Chicago!
Profits from this party will benefit PKS. Everyone is invited!

exhibition on Mercer Island |

Local artist Kate (Kasia) Pawluskiewicz shows her latest works
at a two-day exhibition on the Mercer Island. About 20 paintings include
big oils from series Everlasting Moments of 2007 and
sculptures include the
Little Birds on the Big Wire installed for the show.
Limited edition Valentine's cards also available.

The book for the meeting is
Pikanterie, a set of stories by various authors,
published by Wyd. Jacek Santorski in 2006.; Among the authors of
the frequently twisted love stories there are Hanna Samson, Tomasz
Jastrun, Jozef Hen and Krystyna Kofta.
Pikanterie can be
bought on the Internet or borrowed from Club members.

Kazimierz Poznanski is a
professor at the University of Washington,
a painter and an art collector with interest in Chinese art &
culture. His exhibition Cycles at the Seattle Pacific
University features 18 paintings made with traditional Chinese
paint on a rice paper.
